New Light Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) was formed in the summer of 1996 by Dr. Craig C. Avents Sr. along with a small, but faithful congregation. The first services were held in the home of the Dr. Avents, while God worked out his plan for growth. By the following year we were blessed with our current location, 138 Lucas Avenue, in Norfolk Virginia. It is in this location that we continue to praise God for what he has done, and for the things he continues to do for us.

    Our purpose is to fulfull the mission that Christ has commissioned for our lives. We are working diligently to learn the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to share the good news to all that desire to hear it.
    If you have a hunger to learn and a desire to be fed spiritually, come dine with us at the table that God has prepared.

To be a church that works diligently with the existing generation to change the following generations.

    It is our responsible to pass on the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the same way the previous generations have passed it down to us. We must continue to share with the following generations the message of salvation, in season and out of season. We do this by teaching, preaching, & evangelizing; working diligently to fulfill the task commissioned to us by Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:19)
