New Light Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) was formed in the summer of 1996 by Pastor Avents along with a small, but faithful congregation. The first services were held in the home of the Pastor, while God worked out his plan for growth. By the following year we were blessed with our current location, 138 Lucas Avenue, in Norfolk Virginia. It is in this location that we continue to praise God for what he has done, and for the things he continues to do for us.

    Our purpose is to fulfull the mission that Christ has commissioned for our lives. We are working diligently to learn the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to share the good news to all that desire to hear it.
    Under the leadership of our Pastor, Dr. Craig C. Avents Sr., and Co-Pastor, Karen Avents, we are developing an environment that promotes the education and implementation of God's word into all areas of life. We strive to be a teaching Church.

To be a church that works diligently with the existing generation to change the following generations.

    It is our responsible to pass on the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the same way the previous generations have passed it down to us. We must continue to share with the following generations the message of salvation, in season and out of season. We do this by teaching, preaching, & evangelizing; working diligently to fulfill the task commissioned to us by Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:19)
